Description
Small, easily recognisable cockatoo. The head, neck and lower body are a reddish pink colour, with a paler pink crest, and the lower parts of the back, wings and tail are grey.
Ethology
They are very sociable and live in flocks of up to 100 birds. They form permanent couples, although one bird will take a new partner if the other dies. They nest in tree holes. They lay an average of three eggs which both parents incubate for four weeks. It is unusual for wild galahs to live over 30 years, but in captivity they may live for up to 80 years.
Interesting facts
Their populations are growing due to adapting perfectly to metropolitan areas. They eat seeds of grasses and crops, making these birds agricultural pests in some areas.
