The Great Mountain of Jebel Serj

This facility houses one of the largest groups of giraffes in Spain with 12 specimens. It has approximately 3,900m², which has been designed with the most modern technologies to guarantee maximum animal welfare. The Jebel Serj is an impressive 1357 m altitude mountain located in Tunisia. Currently an area of 100ha. has been declared a Natural Reserve in order to protect and restore biodiversity. In 2016, 8 Cuvier's gazelles born in our facilities were transferred to this reserve, allowing the species to return to this area.

4 species living in total harmony

This is  a multispecies installation. Here you can see 4 species of animals living together. They are spaces that faithfully reproduce the habitats in which animals of different species coexist with each other, just as they would in nature. These enclosures are a greater stimulus and enrichment for the animals and, in addition, they offer the visitor a much more real image of nature.

Vegetation

Africa’s typical vegetation. The date palm (Phoenix dactylifera) is located on the plains and high in the mountains, while on the slopes you will find yellow-barked acacia (Acacia xanthophloea), Gabon tulip tree (Spathodea campanulata) and palmetto (Chamaerops humilis). This vegetation provides shade and food for animals, as well as protecting the soil from erosion.

Handling sleeves

They are fundamental tools to guarantee animal welfare. Thanks to daily training with positive reinforcement, the animal is able to enter the handling chute voluntarily and collaborate with the training. This allows the veterinary team to check on the animals without causing stress and without posing a risk to vets and keepers.

Viewpoint

It has different observation points at different heights, allowing you to observe the giraffes in a safer and closer way.

Waterfalls

They run up to two impressive lakes with a total capacity of 400 m².

Feeders

The facility has different types of feeders, each one adapted to the species and type of food. You will find feeders for forage and grain and others that are destined for fresh branches.

Prairie

The slope of the land is barely 8%, which corresponds to an optimal space for the giraffes to carry out their daily activities.
