Domestic animals are those that live with humans. 
Before being domesticated they were wild animals. 

When the land started to be cultivated, they helped make the work easier and faster. This led to some species being bred as a source of food and labour. 
This was a very important event in the history of mankind, which led to specific areas being established, forming the first cities and markets.
