Description
The name bearded dragon is due to the folds of skin with pointed scales on the throat. They have a body covered with scales in the form of spines, especially on their sides, which serve to intimidate potential predators. They have a wide variety of colours, including brown, reddish brown, red, yellow, orange and white.

Ethology
They are very territorial animals, although they always try to avoid confrontation. They communicate through the use of their “beard”, movements of their heads and front legs, and changes of colour. They also regulate their temperature by flattening their bodies to spread heat over a larger area, and opening their mouths to refresh themselves.

Interesting Facts
They have rituals of gestures and leg and head movements, which attempt to substitute direct combat. When they feel threatened, they open their mouth, spreading the beard of spines, which are coloured a dark black, in order to intimidate. They are one of the most common lizards in the pets trade.
