Description

The pygmy goat has a sturdy body and its fur may have a very varied colouring. It is characterised by having very strong hooves which allow it to move with agility, and horns which are long in males and shorter in females. Only the males have beards and give of a strong odour during the breeding season. 

Ethology

They are gregarious animals. Pygmy goats can breed throughout the year and birth one, two or occasionally three kids, each weighing 900 grams. The gestation lasts approximately 140 to 160 days. The kids are able to follow the herd shortly after being born.

Interesting facts

Originating in Africa, goats have been domesticated by humans for 10,000 years. They have always been a highly valued mammal, as milk and meat have always been obtained from them. There are currently many of this species on farms and in gardens, being a playful, affectionate breed.
