Green monkey
Chlorocebus sabaeus

Description
The green monkey is a medium-sized primate covered with abundant golden-green hair, the reason for its name. They have no hair on the face, where the skin has a dark bluish tone, similar to the genital area of the males, which is also blue. They have a long and prehensile tail that they use to move between the tree branches and to feed. They are adapted to undertaking long migratory movements.
Behaviour
They are very sociable animals and live in groups of up to 50 individuals who move together in search of food and water. The males are very territorial and will fight to protect their females. They are very selective when choosing their food and, thanks to the collecting sacks in their mouths, they can accumulate food for a time and then ingest it later.
Interesting facts
They play an important role in keeping ecosystems in balance as they help with seed dispersal. As they live in large groups, they are an easy target for predators such as cats, birds of prey and other primates such as baboons. Their populations are threatened by habitat destruction and illegal trafficking for use in experiments.
