È un bovino di grandi dimensioni. Generalmente è di colore rosso scuro anche se la sua pelliccia può essere marrone o nera. Sia i maschi che le femmine hanno le corna più grandi di qualsiasi altro tipo di bestiame. Queste corna, che possono raggiungere quasi i 2 metri, sono vuote e ciò li aiuta a disperdere il calore corporeo in eccesso, poiché il sangue che circola all’interno si raffredda e poi ritorna nel corpo. Ciò li aiuta a far fronte a temperature che superano i 45 ºC.

Diese Hörner sind innen hohl, was ihnen hilft, überschüssige Körperwärme abzuleiten, da das Blut, das durch das Horn zirkuliert, abkühlt und dann in den Körper zurückkehrt. Dies hilft ihnen, mit Temperaturen von über 45°C zurechtzukommen.

Leurs cornes sont creuses et leur permettent de disperser l’excès de chaleur corporelle, car le sang qui circule dans les cornes se refroidit puis retourne dans le corps. Tanto los machos como las hembras tienen los cuernos más grandes de cualquier especie de ganado ¡pueden alcanzar casi 2 metros! Estos cuernos son huecos lo que les ayuda a dispersar el exceso de calor corporal, a medida que la sangre que circula a través del cuerno se enfría y luego vuelve al cuerpo. Jest to jeden z największych węży na świecie. Samice są większe niż samce i mają mniejszą głowę w stosunku do reszty ciała. Podstawowym kolorem jego ciała jest jasnożółty z serią podłużnych, brązowych i prostokątnych plam z czarnymi obwódkami. Są dusicielami.

ETOLOGIA

Prowadzą samotny tryb życia i mogą żyć około 30 lat. Rozmnażają się na początku wiosny, mogą złożyć do 100 jaj, które będą inkubowane przez samicę aż do wyklucia. Nie karmi się ona w tym okresie, co może trwać dwa lub więcej miesięcy. Po urodzeniu, młode muszą radzić sobie same.
