Dorosłe osobniki posiadają czerwone dzioby i łapy. Ich upierzenie jest przeważnie czerwonawo-brązowe, szare z obu stron głowy i w górnej części karku, dolna część ich piersi jest jaśniejszego, szarego koloru; klatka piersiowa i brzuch są czarne, a spodnia część skrzydeł posiada szeroki biały pas.
Nie ma różnicy pomiędzy osobnikami obu płci.

ETOLOGIA

Szacuje się, że para trzyma się razem do końca życia. Zazwyczaj tworzą gniazda w dziuplach drzew, ale robią to często również na ziemi.

Gli adulti hanno il becco e le zampe rosse. Il suo piumaggio è prevalentemente di un marrone rossiccio, con entrambi i lati della testa e la parte superiore della nuca grigia e la parte inferiore del petto un grigio più chiaro; il petto e la pancia sono neri, la parte inferiore delle ali mostra un’ampia striscia bianca.
Non c'è differenza tra i sessi.

ETOLOGIA

Si stima che la coppia rimane insieme per tutta la vita. Di solito nidificano nelle cavità degli alberi, ma non è raro che lo facciano anche nel terreno.

Bei den erwachsenen Tieren sind Schnabel und Füße rötlich. Das Gefieder ist hauptsächlich rotbraun, an den Seiten des Kopfes und oberhalb des Nackens jedoch grau und unterhalb der Brust von einem helleren Grau. Brust und Bauch sind schwarz, unterhalb der Flügel sieht man einen breiten weißen Streifen.     
Die Geschlechter weisen hier keine Unterschiede auf. 

ETHOLOGIE
Man nimmt an, dass die Paare ein Leben lang zusammen bleiben. Normalerweise brüten sie auf Bäumen, manchmal jedoch auch auf der Erde. 

DESCRIPTION

Les adultes ont le bec et les pattes rouges. Leur plumage est principalement marron rougeâtre alors que les deux côtés de la tête et  la partie supérieure de la nuque sont gris. La zone sous la poitrine est d’un gris plus clair, la poitrine et le ventre sont noirs, et sous les ailes, on peut apercevoir une large rayure blanche.
Il n’y a aucune différence entre les mâles et les femelles. 

Description

Adults have reddish beaks and feet. Their plumage is mainly a reddish brown, both sides of the head and the upper area of the neck being grey, and the lower section of the chest being a lighter grey. The chest and belly are black, and on the lower section of the wings there is a wide white strip. There is no difference between sexes.
