Descrizione

È la quarta specie di tartaruga più grande del mondo e la seconda più grande d'Africa. Il carapace è arrotondato e molto bombato, con un colore giallastro crema con macchie nere e che dà il nome a questa specie. Le sue zampe sono robuste, hanno squame rigide e unghie forti. La colorazione delle tartarughe giovani è diversa da quella degli adulti, di fatto è più scura e molto più vistosa di quella dell'adulto.

Sie ist die viertgrößte Landschildkröte der Welt und die zweitgrößte Schildkröte Afrikas. Sie hat einen runden, stark gewölbten Rückenpanzer, dessen cremegelber, mit schwarzen Flecken gesprenkelten Färbung sie ihren Namen verdankt. Ihre massigen Beine sind mit starren Schuppen gepanzert und enden in kräftigen Krallen. Die Farbzeichnung der Jungtiere ist dunkler und bedeutend lebhafter als die der adulten Tiere.

C'est la quatrième espèce de tortue la plus grande au monde et la seconde plus grande d'Afrique. Sa carapace est arrondie et très bombée, avec une couleur jaune crème et des taches noires qui lui ont donné son nom. Leurs pattes sont robustes et elles ont des écailles rigides et fortes. Leurs motifs chez les jeunes sont différents aux adultes, plus foncé et beaucoup plus voyant que chez l'adulte.

It is the fourth largest tortoise species in the world and the second largest in Africa. Its shell is rounded and very large, with a yellowish creamy colour with leopard-like black spots, from where it gets its name. The legs are robust, they have rigid scales and strong claws. The coloured pattern of the young tortoise is different to that of the adult, as it is darker and more striking.

Es la cuarta especie de tortuga más grande del mundo y la segunda más grande de África. Su caparazón es redondeado y muy abombado, con un color amarillento crema con manchas negras lo que le da el nombre a esta especie. Sus patas son robustas, tienen escamas rígidas y uñas fuertes. El patrón de coloración de la tortuga joven es distinto al del adulto, pues es más oscuro y mucho más vistoso que el adulto.

Pancerz barwy oliwkowo-zielonej. U młodych osobników pancerz i skóra ma kolor od żółto-zielonego do ciemnozielonego. Po bokach zielonej głowy występują rozszerzające się do tyłu czerwone lub żółte paski, a poniżej paski jasnożółte. Palce stóp łączy błona pławna. Samce są zazwyczaj mniejsze od samic i mają dłuższe i grubsze ogony oraz dłuższe pazury.

Il colore degli adulti è verde oliva. Il carapace è giallo con parti più scure al centro delle placche. I più giovani hanno un carapace verde chiaro e la pelle con macchie e strisce verde giallo e verde scuro. Presentano una striscia larga orizzontale dietro gli occhi, di colore rosso o giallo a seconda della sottospecie. Hanno zampe palmate che la aiutano a nuotare. I maschi sono più piccoli delle femmine.

Die adulten Tiere sind olivgrün gefärbt. Der Bauchpanzer ist gelblich mit dunklen Markierungen im Zentrum jedes Schildes. Die Jungtiere haben einen heller grün gefärbten Panzer und ihre Haut weist grüngelb bis dunkelgrün gefärbte Markierungen und Streifen auf. Namensgebend ist der rötliche Streifen auf jeder Kopfseite, der sich von den Augen bis fast zum Kopfende erstreckt. Dieser Streifen kann je nach Unterart auch gelb sein. Die Schwimmhäute ihrer Füße sind ihnen beim Schwimmen behilflich. Die Männchen sind kleiner als die Weibchen.

La couleur à l'âge adulte est vert olive. Le plastron est jaune orné de taches foncées au centre de chaque écaille. Les jeunes spécimens ont une carapace verte plus claire et la peau avec des marques et des rayures vertes et jaunes à vert foncé. Elles ont une large rayure horizontale derrière chaque œil, de couleur rouge ou jaune selon la sous-espèce. Leurs pattes sont palmées pour pouvoir mieux nager. Les mâles sont plus petits que les femelles.

The adults are olive green in colour. The plastron is yellow with dark patches in the centre of each scute. The young have a lighter green shell and the skin has yellowish green to dark green lines. They have a wide horizontal stripe behind each eye that is red or yellow depending on the subspecies. They have webbed feet that help them swim.
