DESCRIPTION

Le varan à gorge blanche se classe au deuxième rang des plus grandes espèces de lézards observées en Afrique et c’est le plus lourd d’entre elles.  
Son corps est généralement gris et marron, ponctué de tâches jaunes ou blanches. Sa gorge a une couleur plus claire. Sa langue bifide de couleur rose ou bleue lui permet de localiser plus précisément une proie grâce à son odeur.

DESCRIPTION

The white-throated monitor is the heaviest and the second largest species of lizard found in Africa.
They have a generally grey and brown mottled body with yellowish or white spots. The throat is a lighter colour. It has a pink or blue forked tongue. The forked tongue allows greater precision when locating the scent of prey.

El varano de garganta blanca es la segunda especie  de lagarto más grande encontrado en África y el más pesado.
Poseen un cuerpo de color generalmente moteado de gris y marrón con manchas de color amarillento o blanco. La garganta es de un color mas claro. Posee una lengua  bífida  de color rosa o azul. La lengua bífida les permite una mayor precisión en la localización de olor de una presa.

Dieses Säugetier hat einen robusten Körper und robuste Beine, ein dichtes, langes Haarkleid, eine lange Schnauze und einen kleinen Schwanz. Die Männchen besitzen grosse, eingerollte Hörner; falls die Weibchen welche haben, sind sie klein und gerade.
Es gibt zahlreiche Rassen, die sich in Grösse und Farbe sehr unterscheiden.

Existen numerosas razas, por lo que pueden ser muy variables en tamaño y color.

Jest to jedna z najbardziej znanych australijskich jaszczurek, ze względu na warstwę skóry znajdującą się za jej głową i na plecach, rodzaj kołnierza z długimi kolcami z chrząstki, które otwierają się, gdy czują się one zagrożone. Kolor ich skóry różni się od szarego do brązowego.
