Description

The adults are olive green in colour. The plastron is yellow with dark patches in the centre of each scute. The young have a lighter green shell and the skin has yellowish green to dark green lines. They have a wide horizontal stripe behind each eye that is red or yellow depending on the subspecies. They have webbed feet that help them swim.

Los juveniles tienen un caparazón verde más claro y la piel con marcas y rayas verde-amarillentas a verde oscuras. Presentan una raya ancha horizontal detrás de cada ojo, de color rojo o amarillo dependiendo de la subespecie. Tienen patas palmeadas que las ayudan a nadar.

Jest to trzeci największy gatunek żółwia lądowego na świecie i największy z żółwi kontynentalnych. Samiec jest dużo większy od samicy. Pancerz grzbietowy ma szaro-beżowy kolor. Skóra ma barwę jasno brązową i nogi są chronione przez grube wyrostki rogowe.

Il carapace è di colore marrone chiaro e si scurisce ai margini delle placche. La pelle è di colore marrone chiaro e le zampe sono protette da forti squame molto pronunciate.

Sie ist die drittgrößte Landschildkröte der Welt und die größte existierende kontinentale Schildkröte. Das Männchen ist bedeutend größer als das Weibchen. Ihr Rückenpanzer ist hellbraun gefärbt, mit an den Rändern deutlich dunkel abgesetzten Schildern. Die Haut ist hellbraun und ihre Beine sind von harten, deutlich ausgebildeten Schuppen bedeckt.

De par sa taille, c'est la troisième tortue terrestre la plus grande du monde et la plus grande des tortues continentales. Le mâle est beaucoup plus grand que la femelle. La carapace est de couleur marron et plus foncée sur les côtés des plaques. La peau est de couleur marron clair et leurs pattes sont protégées par de grosses écailles résistantes.

Due to its size, it is the third largest terrestrial turtle in the world and the largest of the continental ones. The male is much bigger than the female. The back-plate is light brown in colour that darkens on the sides of the plates. The skin is a light brown and the legs are protected by very marked scales.

Jego paszcza jest dosyć długa i wydłużona. Uszy, oczy i otwory nosowe znajdują się na najwyższej części ciała, dzięki czemu mogą chować się tuż pod powierzchnią wody w oczekiwaniu na swoje ofiary. Dorosłe osobniki mają jednolity ciemny kolor, z czarnymi pasami na ogonie i jasnym brzuchem; młode mają ciemnozielony lub brązowy kolor, z ciemniejszymi poprzecznymi pasami.

Il muso è abbastanza lungo e termina a forma di becco. Le orecchie, gli occhi e le narici si localizzano nella parte più alta del corpo così da permettergli di nascondersi a pelo d'acqua quando caccia le sue prede. Gli adulti presentano un colore scuro uniforme, con frange nere sulla coda e l'addome chiaro, invece i più giovani sono di colore verde scuro o marroni, con linee trasversali più scure.
